Sacramento never held a lead in Sunday’s blowout loss

If Sunday’s game between the Sacramento Kings and Orlando Magic could be summed up in one word, it would be pretty easy to choose the phrase:

“Yikes.”

The Kings suffered one of the most embarrassing losses in recent memory, trailing by as many as 36 points in an easy 132-116 win for the Orlando Magic.

For the second game in a row, Sacramento squandered a massive chance to improve their stance in the Western Conference playoff race.

With the Portland Trail Blazers losing to the Boston Celtics and the Memphis Grizzlies dropping a game to the San Antonio Spurs, the Kings could have climbed to 2.5 games behind the Grizzles.

Instead, the Kings will remain 3.5 games back of Memphis with only six games remaining, while the Spurs are currently in the ninth-seed drivers seat, sitting only two games back of the eighth-seed spot.

If Sacramento is to make the play-in scenario, it will take–in all likelihood–five wins out of their remaining six games.

Harry Giles III scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss, while De’Aaron Fox added 13 points and three assists. Harrison Barnes, Buddy Hield, Richaun Holmes, DaQuan Jeffries and Bogdan Bogdanovic each contributed with 12 points.

All-Star center Nikola Vucevic scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Magic.

Aaron Gordon added 22 points, while Terrance Ross led Orlando scorers with 25 points off of the bench. Former number-one pick Markelle Fultz added 14 points in the blowout win.

Coming Up

The Kings will face Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in a matinee on Tuesday.

Sacramento is 1-2 against the Mavericks this season, winning on December 8th in Dallas by a final of 110-106. The Kings were without the services of De’Aaron Fox in the win.
