The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly working towards creating a multiyear contract with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
This comes as no surprise seeing as Garoppolo has given the Niners 4-0 consecutive wins since he became the teams starting QB.
NBC Bay Area Reporter Matt Maiocco went to Twitter to talk about the plan the 49ers have for Jimmy Garoppolo.
Per Maiocco, if both, Garoppolo and the Niners, do not agree on a contract extension, meaning years and salary, by March 6 then the 49ers will use the franchise tag on Garoppolo.
Late October, the New England Patriots had traded Garoppolo to the Niners in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick.
Since being brought to San Francisco, Jimmy G has thrown 1,268 yards and has completed 69 percent of his passes while also making five touchdowns and three interceptions.
According to Bleacher Report, the 49ers have a $117.9 million cap space heading into the 2018 season. Though $23.5 million will go towards Garoppolo if they use the franchise tag on him.
With only $23.5 mill. going to Garoppolo, the remaining $94.4 million still gives the team the financial freedom to chase free agents.
