How bout that?

It absolutely killed me to shut my mouth for the last two weeks, especially for a guy that gets paid to run his mouth. Very quietly, a group of people I happened to be involved with had come up with the idea of doing a Manhattan takeover from Sacramento. Through the efforts of many, many people, we were able to realize that dream, and keep it completely quiet.

Tuesday night, a little over 30 Sacramento Republic fans boarded a flight out of Sac Airport, bound for JFK in New York. A little after 5am EST, they arrived bleary eyed but determined. Straight from the airport to a Panera Bread, they loaded up on carbs and caffeine. At about 4am Sacramento time, they were singing, chanting, and waving flags outside MLS Headquarters on 5th avenue.

Sacramento fans just absolutely continue to amaze. The fact that all these people, just simply fans of the team, gave up that type of time and energy to make this happen is flat out astounding. And at the time of this writing Wednesday evening, they are already on their way back home. I’d like to dedicate the next paragraph to the amazing supporters from the other three cities up for expansion:

…………………………………………………………..

That’s right. Not one. Not one fan from ANY of the three other markets.

Tomorrow I will write about the presentation. It was amazing, put on by a phenomenal team of people representing Sacramento. But today, as I lie in my hotel bed delirious and blurry eyed from lack of sleep- I just want to tip the beanie to these fans, and the ones that couldn’t make it here. Time and time and time again Sacramento fans exceed expectations. Today was no different.
