Well here we are.  On May 15th there was a buzz in Sacramento when we all found out that the Kings would be picking number 2 in the NBA Draft.  At that moment everyone scurried to mock drafts to see that DeAndre Ayton and Luka Doncic were residing on most mocks at either one or two.  Over the last month rumors and speculation has picked apart all of the picks with differing mock drafts.  So what do the Sacramento Kings do at number 2?

Despite what you may think I am a risk taker.  I have been highly intrigued by the overall talent of Michael Porter.  I think he fits the Kings well.  I think he fits the present day NBA very well.  I think he is a top overall pick without the huge question mark of his health.  That is concerning though.  Is the back a short term issue?  Will it be a career nagging injury?  I am willing to take that risk but I of course have not seen the medical report.  I would be even willing to have him sit a full season to get right and then launch him a year from now.  Does Vlade and Coach Joerger have that kind of time?  This team hasn’t been good in a long time and if this pick is “wrong” will they be around to see another draft.  So much pressure to get this pick right.

So we now get to Marvin Bagley and Luka Doncic.  I personally don’t think there is another name that would be called here.  That is unless the Suns surprise by not taking Ayton.  So with the assumption that the Suns take Ayton then the Kings are on the clock.  Bagley has some significant skills that are exciting.  Most “experts” are now saying that Bagley is who the Kings will pick.  I think he would be a good fit.  I don’t think he would be the best pick for this team though.  I do believe that at the end of the day the Sacramento Kings will take Luka Doncic.  The front office has had a long standing relationship with him.  He has been rated as one of the top players in this draft and the fans seem to want him too.  The choice isn’t clear, it isn’t easy, but I think in the end the newest member of the Sacramento Kings is going to be Luka Doncic.  We will find out shortly.
