Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant kicked off the 2018 New Year still in the holiday spirit. In a press release this morning from the University of Texas it was announced the 2017 NBA Finals MVP would donate $3 million to his alma mater with $2.5  set to go to the Texas Basketball program

In his only season at Texas, Durant put up 25.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game becoming the first freshman in NCAA history to win any of the major National Player of the Year awards. He was a consensus first-team All-America selection and swept the Player of the Year awards, winning the Naismith and Wooden awards and the Rupp Trophy.

According to the press release, Durant’s donation was the largest in school history from a former basketball student-athlete and amongst the largest ever from a professional athlete to his or her former school. Texas will name the main entrance to Denton A. Cooley Pavilion the “Kevin Durant Texas Basketball Center” and, the men’s basketball facilities will be named “The Kevin Durant Basketball Facility for Men.”
