According to The Bee’s Ailene Voison, the Sacramento Kings will be playing a preseason game next year.
Not news.
What IS news, is that they will be playing the Warriors, in Seattle.
I said WHAT????

Did someone go out and get the Kings drunk this week or something?
First off, it is a TERRIBLE idea to have the Kings playing in Seattle. At the very least, its completely tone deaf. As someone who is very familiar with the fight for the Kings vs Seattle, I have mixed emotions about some things. But I’m very clear that Seattle got screwed when the Sonics left, and they deserve a team. I’m far from happy with their efforts to grab the Kings, but in retrospect I’ve come to an understanding: If the Kings had left 5 years ago, I’d be willing to do or take just about anything to get the NBA back to Sac.
I love that there will be a game in Seattle. I love that this may be a preamble to serious conversations about expansion to Seattle (or more likely moving Memphis or New Orleans there). What I DON’T like is that the Kings signed off to basically be the evil presence in front of tens of thousand of fired up Seattle fans.
Is it the end of the world? Of course not. But its going to be an unpleasant experience, and is really a kick in the balls to the Seattle fanbase. The only thing worse would be if it was the Kings vs Oklahoma City.
My suggestion? There’s plenty of time left. Bow out with class, cite emotions that are understandably still high up there, and grab one of the other 27 teams to take your place. Portland, Utah, Phoenix, Denver, LA.
Just not Sacramento.
Combine this with the false hope we are all going to get with this NBA All-Star bid that has basically zero chance of happening, and this has not been a good week of decision making for our beloved team in purple.
Just please don’t let Fergie sing the national anthem at Golden 1 Center. Just sit this next round out, and take a deep breath.
