Raise your hand if you had the 2-10 Oakland Raiders beating the 7-4-1 Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The Silver & Black earned their 3rd win of the season over the leaders of the AFC North, who now have the Baltimore Ravens to worry about after dropping a shocker in the Coliseum, 24-21.
Ben Roethlisberger had himself a good day under center for Pittsburgh, despite not playing to start the 2nd half. The Steelers held him in the locker room for treatment of a rib injury. He would re-enter the game however, and managed to complete 25 of 29 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster.
The normally suspect Raider defense made a number of huge plays, including an interception and a stopped 4th down conversion in the 3rd quarter. Derek Carr and the Oakland offense rewarded the solid defense with 14 points in the 4th quarter, the game-winning touchdown coming on 4th and goal with just 21 seconds left. Carr finished the game with 322 total passing yards and two touchdowns.
Pittsburgh didn’t go down quietly however. With 15 seconds remaining, the Steelers pulled off a hook and ladder play that moved the ball up field, giving them a 40 yard field goal to tie the game. However, the grass had been causing Steelers players to lose their footing all game, and that’s what happened to kicker Chris Boswell, who had his attempt blocked, giving the Raiders the win.
WHAT A WAY TO LOSE IT 😳 The Raiders hand the Steelers their third straight loss.
