The San Francisco Giants filled a needed gap in their lineup with the latest acquisition of third baseman Evan Longoria from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network broke the news Wednesday morning.

Tampa Bay traded the three-time Gold Glove Award winner for OF Denard Span, IF prospect Christian Arroyo, LHP Matt Krook and RHP Stephen Woods, per Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.

Longoria, 32, batted .261 last season with a .313 OBP and .424 SLG. He racked up 20 home runs, 86 RBIs and 36 doubles during this time.

Krook was drafted by the Giants in 2016. He spent 2017 with the San Jose Giants where he went 4-9 with a 5.12 ERA in 25 games. Woods is ranked as the Giants’ No. 29 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Span signed a three-year, $31 million, contract with the San Francisco Giants prior to the 2016 season. The lead-off man batted .268 including 96 RBIs in his two seasons with the Giants.

Arroyo was drafted in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Giants. He made his major league debut on April 25 against the Dodgers but hit just .192 with 14 RBIs before being sent down to Triple-A on June 4 to make room for a healthy Hunter Pence.
