With the Oakland Raiders coming off a 16-10 victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 1 of the preseason, they now turn their focus to Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Here are three things to look for against the Rams:
- With the Raiders playing the Rams Week 1 of the regular season, don’t expect too much to be shown from either teams in terms of starters, if they play at all. Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about his plans for his starters against the Rams and McVay responded: “I’m saying that it’s always adjustable and we kind of have an idea and we’ve talked about it. The tricky thing, too, is that you open with the team you play next week. So there’s a lot of different layers to it.”
- Donald Penn agreed to take a pay cut and was taken off the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday and head coach Jon Gruden had him practice at right tackle. Penn was a Pro Bowl left tackle last season but the Raiders drafted tackle Kolton Miller in the first round of April’s draft. With Penn getting reps at right tackle and Miller getting reps on the other side, look out for how Gruden plans to use the two guards on Saturday.
- Connor Cook may have tightened his grip on the backup quarterback role after his game against the Lions but has struggled in camp this week. After getting majority of the snaps in Week 1, Cook could be looking at a heavy workload again but EJ Manuel will also get a decent amount of playing time with the starters potentially getting little playing time.
The Raiders travel to Los Angeles to play the Rams this Saturday at 1:00 pm. The game will be broadcast on Sports 1140 KHTK.
