No. 6 Washington vs. No. 9 Auburn – Saturday, 12:30 pm
Auburn (10-4 (7-1) in 2017) is coming off a season where they won the SEC West but fell to Georgia in the SEC Championship game. The Tigers haven’t had much luck in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, going 0-2 last season in the inaugural year of Atlanta’s new stadium. Auburn is also returning with quarterback Jarrett Stidham who threw for 18 touchdowns last season.
Washington (10-3 (7-2) in 2017) looks to start their season just as hot as last season, where they started 6-0. The Huskies ended last season losing to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl and finished second in the Pac-12 North but are considered one of the favorites to win the Pac-12 this season. This is the first time these two schools are meeting and with it being the first top ten matchup on the season, it’ll be a must watch game.
No. 14 Michigan at No. 12 Notre Dame – Saturday, 4:30 pm
For the 37th time and first since 2014, the Wolverines will take on the Fighting Irish in South Bend. Michigan holds a 19-16-1 advantage over Notre Dame. The last time these two teams played, Notre Dame was able to defend home field, winning 31-0 in 2014. That was obviously four years ago and Michigan has made changes, most notably hiring current head coach Jim Harbaugh. In 2014, Michigan finished 5-7, missing a bowl game for the first time since 2009. Since hiring Harbaugh, the Wolverines are 28-11, making a bowl game every season in the Harbaugh era.
No. 20 Virginia Tech at No. 19 Florida State – Monday, 5:00 pm
Florida State is coming off a disappointing 7-6 season where they barely qualified for a bowl game. This season, changes have been made as Jimbo Fisher left for Texas A&M and the Seminoles hired former Oregon head coach Willie Taggart. The Hokies on the other hand are coming off a successful 9-4 season but a disappointing finish where they lost to Oklahoma State in the Camping World Bowl. This is the first key inter-conference matchup in the season and may give us an early look at who may control the ACC this season.
