According to the Tennessean, Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey plans to protest during the national anthem this season, even after the NFL announced new rules regarding the anthem.
“I’m going to take my fine,” Casey said. “It is what it is, I ain’t going to let them stop me from doing what I want to do. If they want to have these battles between players and organizations, this is the way it’s going to be.”
The new NFL rule states that players must stand and respect the flag during the anthem or stay in the locker room. The rule was made in response to President Trump criticizing the NFL and their lack of response to players protesting during the anthem.
Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started kneeling during the anthem in 2016 and other NFL players soon followed. Casey said he believes the quarterback should be on a team, “I think he definitely deserves it. For all these trash quarterbacks you see that get a shot, that come in and sit on the bench all day, you got a starting quarterback that’s out there that can go out there and play.”
Casey is entering his eighth NFL season, all of which have been in Tennessee. He has sad he has not spoke to head coach Mike Vrabel or his teammates but says other players are likely to join him.
