Year two of the California Classic began the same way as year one, with a Sacramento Kings victory. Without main-roster players Marvin Bagley or Frank Mason, Sacramento defeated the Golden State Warriors 81-77.

“Overall, I know there were some pretty good individual numbers, but that was a big time team win,” said Kings summer league head coach Jesse Mermuys, “(Great) defensive effort”.

Wenyen Gabriel, who spent all of last season with the G-League Stockton Kings, finished with a game high 22 points along with 12 rebounds and a pair of steals. Kings rookie Kyle Guy had his fair share of big moments, scoring 10 points, including a couple three-point buckets.

“I told you guys from day one, I practice shooting with my feet not set, shooting however I have to to get the shot off,” said Guy.

“It’s nice to have a guy with that skillset. He is a threat even when he is missing because he can shoot the ball so well,” added Mermuys.

Former King and fan-favorite Jimmer Fredette returned to Sacramento as part of the Warriors’ summer league team, scoring 14 points off of the bench.

“I’m not sure there are many kinds that didn’t watch him grow up. He actually knew my name in the handshake line which was pretty cool,” laughed Guy.

The Kings face the Miami Heat tomorrow night for game two of the California Classic inside the Golden 1 Center.
