DAVIS, Calif. – Aggie football fans, community members, and numerous dignitaries celebrated the first element of Intercollegiate Athletics’ student-athlete performance center project when the new name of UC Davis’ on-campus stadium was unveiled on Friday during this year’s Football Fan Fest.
Starting this month, the defending Big Sky Conference champions, women’s lacrosse, and numerous student events will call UC Davis Health Stadium its home.
This new 20-year naming rights agreement is part of an expanded partnership between UC Davis Athletics and UC Davis Health — the new exclusive health category advertiser and provider of healthcare services once UC Davis’ state-of-the-art Student-Athlete Performance Center opens to the public.
“This collaboration between UC Davis Athletics and UC Davis Health is a strong example of how we work together for the benefit of our students,” Chancellor Gary S. May said. “I’m proud of the University’s commitment to investing in health care services and sports medicine in Davis.”
“As the top-ranked health system in the Sacramento area, it’s important that we reaffirm our focus on taking care of our family, including our students, faculty, staff and the Davis community,” said David Lubarsky, Vice Chancellor of Human Health Sciences and CEO of UC Davis Health. “We’re going to expand our commitment to services on our campus through an enhanced sports medicine practice and other health services, not just for student-athletes, but for students and any active adults in the Davis area.”
Friday’s ceremony also provided an opportunity for everyone to witness firsthand the inaugural phase of the Student-Athlete Performance Center project: A new multi-purpose natural grass practice field is scheduled to open this fall.
Construction of the Student-Athlete Performance Center is the second phase of this project, and is slated to start in early 2020.
Comprised of approximately 38,000 square feet, a multi-use auditorium for undergraduate instruction, new training facilities, a sports medicine center, athletic offices for multiple sport programs, academic support and the Aggie EVO System will call this facility — unparalleled at the FCS level — its home.
UC Davis Health is currently evaluating ways to provide additional medical services to students, faculty, staff, and the Davis community overall from within the Performance Center footprint and other Davis community locations.
“UC Davis Health’s support, along with the support of our generous donors, will allow campus administration to construct a transformational facility that will positively impact student-athletes’ lives and the Davis community,” said UC Davis Director of Athletics Dr. Kevin Blue.
“The Student-Athlete Performance Center will help us meet existing programmatic needs, enhance the quality of services that we provide our student-athletes, and further continue UC Davis Athletics’ upward trajectory,” Blue added.
With a home schedule that includes numerous nationally ranked teams, and this year’s Battle for the Golden Horseshoe rivalry game against Cal Poly, UC Davis football fans can purchase season tickets, any of the three mini plans by visiting tickets.ucdavis.edu, by phone at (530) 752-2471, or in person Monday-Friday between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Athletics Box Office, located at UC Davis Health Stadium.
