Oakland has won 11 of their past 13 games, eclipsed the 90-win mark for the second-straight season
October baseball is close, and the Oakland Athletics are playing their best baseball of the season.
On Sunday afternoon, Matt Chapman drilled his 34th home run of the season, but that wasn’t the main story. The home run was the Athletics’ 244th home run of the season, breaking the franchise record of 243 set by the 1996 A’s. Oakland has an astounding seven players with 20-plus home runs, including three players with 30-plus homers (Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Marcus Semien).
Sean Manaea secured the Athletics’ sweep of the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon with another gem. In his third start since being removed from the Injured List, Manaea hurled six shutout innings with striking out six batters. With the win, he improves to 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA while boasting 21 strikeouts over 18 innings. The 27 year-old could be a lethal weapon for Oakland come postseason time.
Kansas City comes into town on Monday night owning a 55-95 record, the fourth-worst record in all of baseball.
