The Sacramento Kings wrapped up their preseason with a victory over Australia’s Melbourne United inside the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday night. With the 124-110 victory, Sacramento finished the preseason with a 3-2 record and is set to open their regular season next Wednesday in Phoenix.
“I think from where we started training camp to where we’re at now, I’m very impressed with our group of guys,” said Kings head coach Luke Walton, “So preseason’s over and now it’s time to really start locking in and getting ready for the regular season”.
The Kings were shorthanded to say the least against Melbourne, with De’Aaron Fox, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Dewayne Dedmon, Harry Giles, Trevor Ariza and Corey Joseph all among the nine players that didn’t see the floor.
Marvin Bagley dominated in his 28 minutes of work, finishing with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Yogi Ferrell, who started at point guard in place of Fox, dropped 24 points and shot a near perfect five-for-six from three point range.
“My only goal is to play as hard as I possibly can…we’re just getting better every day and we just got to continue to go in the right direction,” said Bagley.
The two Kings rookies got a fair amount of playing time as well, as second round picks Kyle Guy and Justin James combined for 18 points.
Sacramento is expected to be close to, if not at, full strength for their season opener in Phoenix next week. They will return to the Golden 1 Center for their home opener on Friday, October 25th vs the Portland Trail Blazers.
