Sacramento is now four games behind the eight-seed Memphis Grizzlies with 18 games remaining

De’Aaron Fox and the Sacramento Kings gave the reigning champions all that they could handle on Sunday night, but it wasn’t enough.

Norman Powell and Kyle Lowry each scored 30 points or more as the Toronto Raptors beat the Kings by a final of 118-113 on Sunday night at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

Fox scored 28 points in the loss, with three of his points on an and-one lay-up that tied the game at 111-111 with under 40 seconds remaining. Raptors forward Pascal Siakam would answer with a lay-in of his own to give Toronto the two point advantage with 27 seconds left. The Kings would squander a game-tying opportunity, giving the game to the Raptors for good after Siakam knocked down two free-throws to take a four-point lead.

With the loss, the Kings (28-36) are now four-games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. With 18 games left, the margin for error is very slim, especially with the New Orleans Pelicans coming into town on Wednesday night.

The Pelicans are currently tied with Sacramento in the standings, also sitting four-games behind the Grizzlies.

Nemanja Bjelica scored 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the year. Alex Len scored 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks, while Kent Bazemore contributed with 15 points of his own.

Coming Up

Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans will be in Sacramento on Wednesday night for a game that has garnered national attention.

The Kings and Pelicans are in a tie for the ninth spot in the Western Conference, and will look to create some separation as they vie for a playoff spot.
