KHTK is bringing former members of the Sacramento Kings on the air to reflect on their time in the purple and black, talk basketball and much more!

This week on “The Grant Napear Show with Doug Christie”, Grant and Doug had former Sacramento Kings guard Spud Webb on the show to reflect on his time with the organization.

Webb played 12 seasons in the NBA, including four seasons in Sacramento. The 5’4 guard was one of the shortest players in league history, which made his Slam Dunk Contest win in 1986 that much more of a prolific accomplishment. Over the span of his career, Webb averaged 9.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.

After being traded to Sacramento in 1991,Webb had a breakout season where he averaged career-highs of 16.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

Over 301 games with the Kings, Webb averaged 13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game–his best numbers among the four teams he played for.

Webb joined the show to discuss his time in Sacramento, how much he loved playing with Wayman Tisdale, playing with Moses Malone and more.

“It was a tough move because I had never been out west,” Webb said of his trade to Sacramento from Atlanta. “When I got to Sacramento it was definitely a shock. I loved Atlanta, the things we were doing. And then I got out there and met you crazy guys,” he joked of when he got to know Grant Napear.

On playing with the late Wayman Tisdale, Webb shared stories of the beloved former power forward.

“We went on an east coast trip, and he had his guitar, I asked him ‘how many deals are you going to make on this trip?’, he joked. “The man loved his music. I still listen to him when I’m sitting at home alone sometimes, and reminisce on some of the good times. I used to go to some of his concerts and we would sit around and talk.”

Throughout the course of the interview, Webb shares more stories of Tisdale, talks about learning from NBA great Moses Malone and so much more.
