The El Dorado Hills native will be returning to Notre Dame this year for his senior season

This morning on The Drive with Carmichael Dave and Jason Ross, the guys had a chance to catch up with University of Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book.

Book, who grew up in El Dorado Hills and played high school football for Oak Ridge High School, joined the show to discuss putting off his NFL aspirations for another year as he will return for his senior season.

Interview with Ian Book begins at the 00:44 mark

The 22 year-old threw for 34 touchdowns and 3,034 yards while only throwing six interceptions for the Fighting Irish in 2019.

During his time as starting quarterback for Notre Dame, Book holds a 20-3 record. This season, he could very well claim the school record for wins if the Fighting Irish can win 10 games (Brady Quinn, Tom Clements and Ron Powlus hold the current record of 29 career wins).

When asked what it means to play for Notre Dame, Book shared his thoughts.

“I kind of pinch myself everyday when I’m out there,” he said. “Once I got to campus (on his visit) I just knew that I was going there. It’s been an awesome journey so far.”

On who he tries to emulate in play style, Book shared a few quarterbacks that he looks to as inspiration.

“(Drew) Brees, I watch his film all of the time. He does an unbelievable job and he’s someone that I definitely look up to. I also really like watching Aaron Rodgers; I’d say Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Russel Wilson and lately, I’ve been watching a ton of (Jimmy) Garoppolo. Those are the kind of guys I’m watching, you know, see what they’re doing and take different pointers of their game.”

Over the course of the interview, Book goes on to discuss his play style, why he decided to go to Notre Dame, his future NFL aspirations and more.
