16 years ago today, Sacramento took a 1-0 series lead over KG and the Minnesota Timberwolves
All athletic events will be on pause for the foreseeable future, which is a tough pill to swallow for sports fans around the world.
While this may be a rough time for Sacramento Kings fans, we can look back on some good times while we wait for basketball to make its return.
May 4, 2004 – NBA Western Conference Semifinals
Kings 104, T-Wolves 98 (SAC leads series 1-0)
Mike Bibby scored 33 points, six Kings finished in double-figures and the Sacramento Kings defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final of 104-98 at Target Center in Minneapolis.
With the win, Sacramento took a 1-0 series lead in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Leading 95-92 with under a minute left to play, Kings guard Doug Christie put the final nail in the coffin as he drained a three-pointer with 49 seconds left to give Sacramento a 98-92 lead. Minnesota would fails to score on their next trip down the floor, having to intentionally foul Christie with 32.1 seconds left.
Christie would sink both free-throws, sealing Game 1 for the Kings.
Almost every player that saw the floor finished in double-figures for Sacramento, led by Bibby’s 33 points on 10-of-21 shooting. Bibby also dished seven assists and grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
Chris Webber scored 15 points in the win, while Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic each scored 14 points. Christie and Brad Miller each contributed with 13 points in a balanced scoring night for the Kings.
Timberwolves forward and then-current NBA MVP Kevin Garnett scored 16 points to go along with 18 rebounds in the loss. Sam Cassell scored 40 points for Minnesota, tying his career-high and setting a new playoff career-high.
