Two years ago today, “Krush” walked it off for the Athletics

All athletic events will be on pause for the foreseeable future, which is a tough pill to swallow for sports fans around the world.

While this may be a rough time for Oakland Athletics fans, we can look back on some good times while we wait for baseball to make its return.

May 5, 2018: A’s 2, Orioles 0

It was a pitcher’s duel at the Coliseum two years ago today, as the Oakland Athletics faced the Baltimore Orioles in the second game of a three-game series.

The game headed into extra-innings after Oakland’s Trevor Cahill and Baltimore’s Kevin Gausman boasted shut-out efforts. Now in the hands of the bullpen, the game went into the bottom of the 12th inning with Athletics slugger Khris Davis waiting for his turn to bat.

With one out in the inning, Jed Lowrie singled to center, putting the winning run on base for Davis.

On a 3-1 pitch from Orioles reliever Pedro Araujo, Davis drilled a fastball over the auxiliary scoreboard in left-field to give the A’s a 2-0 walk-off win. Oakland pulled themselves above the .500 mark with the victory, sitting at 17-16 on the year.

The 2018 Athletics would go on to win 97 games, the most wins by the franchise since 2002.
