At long last, Major League Baseball is close to a return.
The Oakland Athletics will begin the 2020 season on July 24th against the Los Angeles Angels after more than four months of uncertainty.
While we wait a little longer, let’s take a look back at what took place on this date in A’s history.
July 14, 2018: A’s 4, Giants 3
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning, time was running out for the Oakland Athletics on this date in 2018.
After a leadoff single by catcher Josh Phegley, Oakland manager Bob Melvin tapped outfielder Mark Canha to pinch-hit for reliever Yusmeiro Petit.
Canha would deliver, drilling a 3-2 pitch from San Francisco Giants reliever Tony Watson deep into the left-field bleachers to give the A’s a 4-3 lead. It was Canha’s 12th home run of the season, and a big one to give Oakland the win over the rivaled Giants.
Marcus Semien, Stephen Piscotty and Chad Pinder all picked up two hits in the win.
A’s closer Blake Treinen would come on in the ninth-inning to secure the save, striking out two batters to claim his 24th save of the season.
