Oakland took three out of four games from Mike Trout and the Angels over the weekend

Baseball is back, and the Oakland A’s quest for an American League West crown is off to a great start.

Chris Bassitt tossed four shutout innings on Monday afternoon while striking out five batters to help lead the Athletics to a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

The A’s bullpen would lock it down late to secure the shutout and a series win as Oakland took three out of four games from the Angels.

Mark Canha hit his first home run of the season, a fourth-inning solo-shot off of Los Angeles starter Griffin Canning. Matt Chapman and Ramon Laureano also supplied an RBI each in the win for Oakland.

Daniel Mengden will get the start for the A’s tomorrow when they face Nolan Arrenado and the Colorado Rockies at the Coliseum.

Tune in to Sports 1140 KHTK for all of the action, with first-pitch coming at 6:40pm PST.

July 26, 2020 (Game 3): A’s 6, Angels 4

The A’s tagged Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani early in the third game of the series, pushing the talented 26 year-old out of the game before recording one out.

Oakland scored five runs in the first inning off of Ohtani, going on to win by a final of 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum.

Sean Murphy hit his first home run of the season, a towering shot in the sixth inning off of Angels reliever Noe Ramirez.

Marcus Semien and Robbie Grossman each picked up two hits in the win, while right fielder Mark Canha drove in two runs for the A’s.

Oakland starter Mike Fiers surrendered four runs over four innings, bu the Athletics bullpen would deliver five shutout innings to secure at least a series split to open up the 2020 season.

July 25, 2020 (Game 2): Angels 4, A’s 1

Los Angeles starter Dylan Bundy pitched a gem for the Angels on Saturday, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball while striking out seven batters to lead the Angels to a 4-1 win over Oakland.

Angels outfielder Justin Upton hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning off of A’s starter Sean Manaea.

July 24, 2020 (Game 1) A’s 7, Angels 3

It was a grand opening day for the Oakland Athletics.

After allowing the Angels to tie the game at 3-3 in the ninth-inning, the A’s came to the plate in the bottom of the 10th inning just needing one run to claim the victory.

Instead of one, they got four.

The A’s loaded the bases with one out for slugger Matt Olson, who sent a first-pitch breaking ball from Angles reliever Hoby Milner into the right-field seats for an electrifying walk-off win.

Olson finished the game going two-for-four with four RBI’s in the win.

Ramon Laureano hit the first home run of the 2020 season for the Athletics, finishing the contest with two hits and a run batted in.

A’s starter Frankie Montas pitched four innings in his season debut, striking out five batters and allowing only one run.
