Oakland sent second-basemen Franklin Bareto to Los Angeles in return for La Stella

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is on Monday afternoon, but the Oakland Athletics are already making moves.

Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the A’s have acquired 2019 All-Star second-basemen Tommy La Stella from the Los Angeles Angels in return of infielder Franklin Barreto.

La Stella, 31, made the American League All-Star team in 2019 during a breakout season that saw him hit .295 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI.

The veteran infielder comes to Oakland with postseason experience, as he was a part of the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs.

Oakland will be able to slide La Stella in at second-base, splitting time with Tony Kemp. La Stella can also spend time at third-base for the A’s if Matt Chapman ever needs a day off.

La Stella is due to hit free-agency at the end of the 2020 season.
