According to multiple reports, Sacramento has four candidates remaining in their search for a new general manager

And then there were four.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Stein of ESPN, the Sacramento Kings have narrowed their list of general manager candidates to four:

  • Sachin Gupta (Executive Vice President of the Minnesota Timberwolves)
  • Monte McNair (Assistant General Manager of the Houston Rockets)
  • Wes Wilcox (former Atlanta Hawks General Manager)
  • Calvin Booth (General Manager of the Denver Nuggets)

Two other candidates–Adam Simon, assistant general manager of the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon–have both decided not to purse Sacramento’s open position, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Booth, who is second in command behind Denver President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly, was reported to have withdrawn from consideration over the weekend.

Now, it appears that Denver has granted their general manage permission to interview for a position that would put him firmly in charge of an organization’s basketball decisions.

The 44 year-old finished his playing career with Sacramento in 2009, later taking front office jobs with the New Orleans Pelicans, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets.

Gupta, who many consider to be the Kings top choice, was previously a part of Sam Hinke’s “Trust The Process” front-office in Philadelphia.

It has been rumored that Gupta was the man behind the infamous salary dump between the Kings and 76ers during the summer of 2015. Gupta also was a factor in Houston’s 2012 trade that brought them future MVP James Harden, as well as other moves that helped build the Rockets into a perennial playoff contender.

Kings interim general manager Joe Dumars is reportedly not involved in the interview process, with owner Vivek Ranadive and advisor Mike Forde handling the search themselves, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.

This story will be updated with more information as it is provided.
