The rookie guard joined the show to discuss why he thinks the Kings are a perfect fit, share his excitement for the upcoming season and more!

This week on The Jason Ross and Doug Christie Show, Sacramento Kings rookie guard Tyrese Haliburton joined the show to talk about his draft experience and what it feels like to be a part of the Kings organization.

Haliburton had a strong sophomore season for Iowa State last season, averaging 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50-percent from the field and 41-percent from the three-point line.

Sacramento, who held the 12th pick in Wednesday night’s draft, was not expected to have a chance at drafting the 20-year-old guard.

Due to a couple of surprise jumps by forwards in the draft, Haliburton was available for the Kings at number 12–something that overjoyed both Sacramento general manager Monte McNair and Haliburton.

“I’m excited, I’m ready to get to work,” Haliburton told J-Ross and Doug on Thursday. “The fans of Sacramento have showed me a lot of love through social media, and I can’t wait to get to the city and get to work.”

On why Haliburton envisions the Kings as a perfect fit for his style of play, the young guard stated that his versatility will mesh well with the roster.

“I do think that I can come in right away, and I can bring a lot of things to the table. I feel that all young blood and new blood is good blood,” he said. “I feel that I will fit really well next to De’Aaron, take the pressure off of him when needed offensively. Obviously he’s a point guard, but I think that he can play off of the ball as well. If he’s got it going and he’s running the offense one night, I can play off of the ball and knock down shots.”
