The 12th overall pick joined the show to share his excitement on joining a young Sacramento squad

Friday morning on The Carmichael Dave Show with JayMarzz, new Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton joined the show to discuss the draft, how it feels to be a part of the Kings organization and more.

Haliburton, who many around the league had going in the top-seven on mock drafts, fell to the Kings at pick number 12 in Wednesday’s NBA Draft–something that overjoyed Sacramento general manager Monte McNair.

The talented 6’4 guard enjoyed a solid year with Iowa State, averaging 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50-percent from the field and 41-percent from the three-point line.

Rumors have surfaced that the drop might have been orchestrated by Haliburton and his agent, who apparently had their eyes set on Sacramento throughout the draft process.

When asked about the rumors, Haliburton made it clear that he was zeroed in on the Kings during the draft process:

“They were a team that I felt that there was a very good possibility that I could end up here, and I’m really excited about it,” he said. “I feel like Sacramento is the perfect fit. I feel like I can come in right away and help the organization, just be another building block to an already great young core. Sacramento definitely was somewhere that I had my eyes on. They told me that they felt that I was the best player in the draft. Not only am I excited to be in Sacramento, but they’re happy to have me. That’s all that I can ask for.”

Throughout the course of the interview, Haliburton and Dave discuss a variety of topics, including:

  • How the rookie has been putting on weight to get NBA ready
  • How Haliburton envisions playing with Kings guard De’Aaron Fox
