Sacramento will need to decide if they want to match the offer, let Bogdanovic walk or work out a sign-and-trade

Restricted free-agent guard Bogdan Boganovic has reportedly signed an offer-sheet with the Atlanta Hawks, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Sacramento, who has the right to match any offer to Bogdanovic, must decide over the next 48 hours if they want to:

  • Match the offer and retain the guard for the same amount of years and money offered by Atlanta.
  • Decline to match the offer and let Bogdanovic sign his new contract.
  • Work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Hawks to ensure that Bogdanovic does not leave with nothing in return.

The 28-year-old had his best NBA season in 2019-20, averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists with the Sacramento Kings.

The offer puts the Kings in an interesting spot, whereas they don’t want to lose the services of Bogdanovic for nothing, but also don’t want to add another large contract onto their plates for the upcoming seasons.

Harrison Barnes, Buddy Hield and De’Aaron Fox will all be making upwards of $20 million over the next three seasons.

Sam Amick of The Athletic dropped some interesting information on Sunday evening, stating that something has to give regarding the current status of the roster:

An answer should be coming very soon regarding the situation, as Sacramento has had a quiet offseason so far with no free-agent signings.

Once the shoe drops on the Bogdanovic news, the Kings should be aggressive in upgrading the roster.
