Yeah I know.
Just seeing that headline might bring a mix of anger, disbelief, sadness, and maybe even hunger.
Ok I’m actually just hungry but that has nothing to do with the headline, sorry.
To this day, we have pretty much accepted that Vlade Divac has been the best Sac-era free agent. And certainly based on his performance here with the Legendary Squad, it’s true. But Whiteside actually has better numbers than Vlade did his year prior in Charlotte, take a look.
Now understand, to come to this conclusion, there are a couple of parameters to keep in mind:
– this is for NEW members of the team. Chris Webber re-signing is a different ballgame
– we are counting numbers in the year PRIOR to joining Sacramento, not career numbers
– this is not me making a case good or bad from the signing, just really narrowing down the parameters to make a statement like I did in the headline. So relax.
What really hit me was kind of a good news/bad news sitch’:
Good news- how the heck did Monte McNair convince a guy who averaged 15.5/13.5 and LED THE LEAGUE IN BLOCKS to come to lowly Sacramento, and to come here on a LEAGUE MINIMUM DEAL???
Bad News–oh my gosh, how many things have to be wrong with a guy to average 15.5/13.5 and lead the league in blocks, yet have to go to Sac on a minimum deal and likely come off the bench? How jacked is your league rep to make this happen?
So as usual, it’s a crossroads environment for Kings fans. Two roads diverged in yellow wood.
Good news is, we won’t have to wait long to find out how this move works out.
