The ESPN Top 100 rankings finished off today, and lo and behold the top TWO players in the NBA (according to them) both play for a certain purple and gold team.

Yes the Lakers, who did not draft Lebron James, who did not draft Anthony Davis, have both on their roster. James came to them on his own, without the need for compensation, whereas AD required a trade- but effectively forced his former team’s hand through his agent Rich Paul.

Sour grapes? Sure, but that gets us nowhere.

A team like the Kings doesn’t get LeBron James and Anthony Davis forcing their way here, nor will they ever. It’s geography, it’s endorsements, it’s the entire business of the NBA, not just on the floor.

So we can let that part of the conversation go.

For now.

It made me think: the Lakers quite possibly have three of the top 5 duos in NBA history:

  • LeBron/AD
  • Shaq/Kobe
  • Magic/Kareem

I get that’s also an argument, Jordan and Pippen are likely number 1, perhaps Stockton and Malone own that title.

The point is, the dumb stupid Lakers have a history of tremendous duos. And of the 6 players listed above, only Magic was drafted by the team.

Quick trivia: name the last player LA drafted that played in an all-star game WHILE still with the Lakers?  Answer below.

What got me thinking- what are the top 3-4 duos for the Kings in their Sacramento tenure?

Maybe take one duo from each decade:

  • Is it Webber/Bibby? Webber/Peja?
  • What about Cousins/IT? Cousins/Gay?
  • Theus/Thorpe?
  • Who would Richmond’s Robin be??

Post your answer below.

It might make you sad when compared to any of the other duos from other teams over history, but dammit it’s OUR history.

Oh yeah: that Laker all-star?

Andrew Bynum.
