Fox left Wednesday night’s game against Chicago with hamstring tightness

While the Sacramento Kings picked up a much needed win on Wednesday night, they might have lost an important piece along the way.

De’Aaron Fox departed the contest mid-way through the first quarter after appearing to grab at his right hamstring area. The 23-year-old checked out of the game and was worked on by the training staff before heading to the Kings locker room.

The Kings later announced that Fox would not return due to right hamstring tightness.

Although Fox was ruled out for the remainder of the game, head coach Luke Walton said that it was promising to have the franchise guard back on the bench during the closing moments of the contest.

Sacramento (4-4) went on to defeat the Chicago Bulls by a final of 128-124, snapping a three-game losing streak to begin a seven-game homestand at Golden 1 Center.

As is usually the case with hamstring issues, Fox is considered day-to-day until more information is provided by the team.

Sacramento is likely being cautious with their star guard, holding him out on Wednesday to prevent further agitation of the injury.

An update on Fox’s status is likely to come by 5:30pm PST on Thursday when Sacramento submits its injury report to the league for tomorrow’s game against Toronto.

Fox, who inked a five-year max extension in the offseason, is averaging 18.4 points and 5.6 assists per game this season while shooting 42-percent from the field over eight games.

If Sacramento is to be without their franchise guard for a short period of time, they have a solid replacement in Tyrese Haliburton, who scored 15 points in the fourth quarter on Wednesday to lead the Kings past Chicago.

The 20-year-old rookie is averaging 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Haliburton has also been efficient shooting the basketball, as he has knocked down 51-percent of his field goal attempts and 48-percent of his three-point attempts.

UPDATE – 9:00am PST (January 8, 2021)

De’Aaron Fox has been listed as “QUESTIONABLE – Right hamstring tightness” on the NBA’s latest injury report.

Fox’s status will be updated closer to 7:00pm PST tip-off.

This story will be updated as more information is provided.
