The 2019 AL MVP finalist has found a new home in Toronto

It looks like the Oakland Athletics will need to find a new shortstop.

Longtime A’s infielder Marcus Semien has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $18 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Semien, 30, has been a staple in the Athletics infield since being acquired prior to the 2015 season. Over six seasons in the green and gold, the Bay Area native hit .256 with 107 home runs and 345 RBI over 773 games.

The University of California alumni enjoyed a breakout season in 2019, where he hit .285 to go along with a career-high 33 home runs and 92 RBI–good enough to finish within the top-three in the American League Most Valuable Player award voting.

Oakland now has two holes in its infield, with Semien departing and last year’s second-baseman Tommy La Stella still on the free-agent market.

Gold Glove and Platinum Glove Award winners Matt Olson and Matt Chapman both remain under contract with the organization through the 2024 season.

Semien will join a stacked Blue Jays lineup that features the likes of George Springer, Vladmir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Teoscar Hernandez.
