After a rough start to the season, the Oakland Athletics are rolling

It’s hard to not get too up or too down after the opening week of Major League Baseball games.

Six games into the season, the Oakland Athletics held an 0-6 record, leaving many with a heavy feeling that this season could be a rough one for the green and gold.

Then again, there are…*checks notes*…162 games in the regular season.

Yeah.

The Athletics have responded to their horrific start to the season with an impressive five-game winning streak, the latest an 8-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night at Oakland Coliseum.

On a day that Major League Baseball honored the great Jackie Robinson for his incredible contributions to the game of baseball–as well as everyday life–the A’s put on an offensive display against Detroit.

Stephen Piscotty drilled his second home run of the season to get things started in the bottom of the third, a solo-shot over the auxiliary scoreboard in left field to put Oakland ahead 1-0.

A’s starter Sean Manaea would strikeout seven batters over six innings of work, only allowing two runs on five hits en route to his first winning decision of the season.

Oakland would pad Manaea’s afternoon with eight runs, as Matt Olson’s solo home run in the fifth-inning and a four-run outburst in the sixth-inning would give the A’s the space they needed for the victory.

Jed Lowrie would finish the night two-for-four with an RBI, while Matt Chapman would drive in two runs with a double in the sixth-inning.

Piscotty, Sean Murphy and Elvis Andrus would all drive in a run on a night where seven of the Athletics’ starting nine would finish with at least one hit on Thursday night.

Yusmerio Petit and J.B. Wendelken would provide two innings of shutout relief before Sergio Romo’s sloppy ninth-inning (two runs on three hits).

The Oakland offense has been dialed in as of late, with the A’s having posted at least six runs in every game during the five-game winning streak.
