Curry, Warriors Outlast Haliburton’s Huge Fourth Quarter

Tyrese Haliburton’s 15-point fourth quarter would not be enough as the Kings lost a close one in San Francisco
Stephen Curry is building his case for his third MVP award of his career, and Sunday night at Chase Center was just another example of the future Hall of Famer’s greatness.
Curry finished with a game-high 37 points on seven-of-14 from the three-point line to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 117-113 win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.
With the loss, the Kings fall to 24-36 on the season.
The Sacramento offense was active early, as the Kings would take a 39-32 lead after the first quarter behind a 14-point performance from Harrison Barnes.
Stephen Curry and the Warriors would battle back in the second quarter, as Curry’s 23-point first half would cut the Sacramento lead to 65-63 at the half.
The Kings and Warriors would go back-and-forth during the third quarter, as Buddy Hield would tally 25 points through the first three periods versus Curry’s 33 as the Dubs took a 94-92 advantage into the fourth.
Tyrese Haliburton made his presence known in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 of his 24 points in the final period to give his team a fighting chance.
While Haliburton would score 15 of Sacramento’s 21 points in the fourth quarter, it wouldn’t be enough as the Warriors would keep pace to outlast the Kings by only four points in what was a true back-and-forth contest at the Chase Center.
As a matter of fact, no other Kings player would convert a field goal in the fourth quarter other than Haliburton.
While we are far, far past the point or moral victories, the Kings played well tonight but–as is the case for 29 other teams around the league–they did not have an answer for Curry.
Haliburton looked great in his role as starting point guard, something that Kings fans will need to keep an eye on as the team weathers the next two weeks of games without De’Aaron Fox.
Rounding out the box score
Buddy Hield scored a team-high 25 points on Sunday night, with all of his points coming over the first three quarters of action.
Hield finished the night nine-of-13 from the field and six-of-eight from downtown in an overall efficient night shooting the basketball.
Tyrese Haliburton got the start at the point guard position with De’Aaron Fox out of action.
The 21-year-old finished with 24 points, three rebounds, eight assists and one steal while shooting 10-of-20 from the field over 37 minutes of action. Haliburton looked very comfortable in his role as the head of the offense, a role that he will be in possession of for the next five/six games at the very least.
Harrison Barnes had a strong night against his former team, scoring 23 points (eight-of-16 from the field) to go along with seven rebounds over a team-high 40 minutes.
Richaun Holmes made his return to the lineup after missing the last five games due to a sore hamstring.
Holmes scored 11 points on four-of-six shooting while also pulling down five rebounds over his 22-minute return to action.
Injury Update
De’Aaron Fox will be out for 10-14 days due to health & safety protocols.
Sacramento will likely be without its star guard until at least May 4th when the team faces the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Coming Up
The Kings will play the second game of a back-to-back on Monday night when they face Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks at Golden 1 Center.
In the most recent meeting between the two teams on April 18th, Sacramento snapped a nine-game losing streak behind a 30-point, 12-assist effort from De’Aaron Fox.
