There are two pivotal Game 5’s in the NBA Wednesday night.

We are still hours away from getting two teams closer to the conference finals and that is nowhere near the biggest news of the NBA day. The NBA news cycle this morning feels like hour one of the start of NBA free agency.

If you follow any NBA insiders on Twitter all you had to hit was refresh and you were going to find some new breaking news.

Chris Paul: He is now out indefinitely and placed in NBA health and safety protocols. He reportedly tested positive though he did get the vaccine back in February. The isolation period for being in health and safety protocols could be shorter for a vaccinated individual. Looking at recent history there have been players that have missed several weeks to others missing just a short amount of time. This is still to be determined. The Western Conference Finals could start as early Sunday.

Kawhi Leonard: Kawhi Leonard was bumped by Joe Ingles in game 4 while in transition and grimaced at the conclusion of the foul. Leonard stayed in the game but then was out for the final minutes. Word from Clippers camp earlier today was that Kawhi would definitely be out for game 5 tonight. After another refresh the news then changed to the Clippers fear that he has suffered an ACL injury and that he is out indefinitely.

Stan Van Gundy: One and done for Stan in New Orleans. Today the Pelicans announced that Stan Van Gundy will no longer be their head coach. The Pelicans will be in search of a new person in charge of the team on the sidelines after Van Gundy coached just one season in New Orleans.

Scott Brooks: The morning NBA news also gave us a coaching change in DC. The Wizards announced that they could not come to an agreement with Scott Brooks. After five seasons of coaching the Wizards, Brooks is out and the Wizards will be looking for a new coach. Currently there are six coaching openings in the NBA: Boston, Indiana, Portland, Orlando, New Orleans and Washington.

Donnie Nelson: The Dallas Mavericks announced today that the franchise has parted ways with General Manager Donnie Nelson. Nelson had been with the organization for 23 years.

LaMelo Ball: The NBA also announced on this wild Wednesday that the 2020-2021 NBA Rookie of the year is Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball. In his first NBA season, Ball averaged 15.7 points per game, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists.
