Oakland will return to the Coliseum for a six-game home-stand beginning on Tuesday afternoon

Not even 24 hours removed from a heartbreaking, extra-inning loss to the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night, the Oakland Athletics bounced back in the final game of the series on Sunday to snap their Bay Area rival’s five-game winning streak.

Cole Irvin delivered his strongest start as an Athletic, as the 27-year-old hurled eight shutout frames to go along with eight strikeouts in a 6-2 win at Oracle Park.

It was the first time in Irvin’s three-year career that the left-hander had pitched eight shutout innings.

The Oakland offense got on the board early thanks to a two-RBI single from Matt Chapman in the top of the first inning. Aramis Garcia’s second RBI single of the contest in the top of the seventh inning would push the A’s lead to 6-0 before the Giants tacked on two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Chapman and Garcia picked up two hits each in the win, while Elvis Andrus (sacrifice fly) and Irvin (sacrifice bunt) both drove in a run to help the A’s snap a two-game skid.

With the season’s first edition of the Bay Bridge Series in the books, Oakland will return to the Coliseum for a six game home stand against beginning on Tuesday against the Texas Rangers before facing the Boston Red Sox during Fourth of July weekend.
