Athletics Acquire Left-handed Reliever Andrew Chafin From Cubs

The lefty holds a 2.06 ERA and has struck out 37 batters over 39.1 innings this season
Bullpen help is on the way for the Oakland Athletics.
Oakland made its first trade deadline move of the week on Monday afternoon when it was announced that the team acquired left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin from the Chicago Cubs.
The A’s traded minor league outfielder Greg Diechmann and pitcher Daniel Palencia to Chicago in return for the 31-year-old Chafin.
Over 39.1 innings this season, Chafin holds an 0-2 record with a 2.06 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Chafin’s 0.86 WHIP ranks first among all qualified pitchers on the Athletics roster.
With Friday’s trade deadline quickly approaching, expect the A’s to remain engages in talks for another bullpen arm, starter and bat as they attempt to bolster its roster for a playoff push.
With the Houston Astros and surging Seattle Mariners challenging the A’s in the American League West, Oakland is going to need to take things up a notch if they want to clinch a postseason berth for the fourth-consecutive season.
