The veteran forward will return to Sacramento on a two-year, $9 million deal

The Sacramento Kings and forward Maurice Harkless have reached an agreement on a two-year, $9 million deal per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Harkless, who was acquired in a midseason trade that sent forward Nemanja Bjelica to the Miami Heat, averaged 6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game on 42-percent shooting from the field during his short stint in Sacramento last season.

The 28-year-old veteran brings a solid presence to the Kings bench, with Sacramento now having some much needed depth at the small forward position.

When starting forward Harrison Barnes went down with an adductor strain late in the regular season, Harkless received the bulk of the minutes left behind by Barnes. Behind inspiring play from Harkless, Delon Wright and Terence Davis, the Kings stayed alive in the race for a Western Conference Play-In spot down until the final week of the regular season.

Harkless has played in nine NBA seasons, having played a solid role in Portland’s playoff teams during the 2015-19 seasons. Adding a wing with playoff experience is something that can benefit a young Kings team that hopes to clinch a postseason berth for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
