Almost all of the time on the radio show, someone will throw out the statement, “oh he’s a top 10 player.”

That statement is easy to say, but harder to prove.

When you start to make your list, it is difficult to place that 10 in order. With the NFL regular season beginning next week, I thought I would take on the task to in fact rank a couple of positions top 10’s.

Today we will focus on the wide receivers of the NFL.

With apologies to names like Odell Beckham, Calvin Ridley, Mike Evans, Allen Robinson, and likely several others that I left off, here goes my list of the top 10 wide receivers in the NFL right now.

Jason Ross’ Top 10 NFL Wide Receivers

10. Keenan Allen – Los Angeles Chargers. Allen has been amazingly consistent during his career. He is a good route runner, has reliable hands and puts up numbers with whoever he has at quarterback.

9. DK Metcalf – Seattle Seahawks- Metcalf may not quite deserve to be here just yet but he has all the talent in the world to be in the top 10. His size, and speed to go with his age should have Russell Wilson and Seattle salivating over what he can do over the next couple of seasons. He is a big play threat but is also dangerous in the red zone.

8. AJ Brown – Tennessee Titans- He has already been able to stretch the field in his first two seasons in the NFL and now with Julio Jones on the other side he could be even more dangerous. He is imposing and attacks defenses with his power and speed.

7. Justin Jefferson – Minnesota Vikings – Jefferson is only one year into his NFL career and what a first year it was.

He burst onto the scene as the replacement for Stefon Diggs and did a great job at that. 1400 yards and 88 catches to go with 7 touchdowns in his first season. If he backs up year 1 with another strong year he will be considered one of the best receivers in the league.

6. Julio Jones – Tennessee Titans He is 32 and no longer on the Atlanta Falcons.

The future Hall of Famer continues to be a matchup nightmare for opposing teams and defensive coordinators. He has all the goods still to be a lethal weapon and should be good for the Titans

5. Michael Thomas – New Orleans Saints – The Saints wide receiver is going to begin the season on the PUP list. We all will have to wait for his return but when he does come back you should see his gaudy stats return too. He will not have Drew Brees, but he does have Sean Payton and look for Thomas to fill the stat page every week once he is healthy.

4. Stefon Diggs – Buffalo Bills – Diggs showed last year that he can clearly be a number 1 receiver. He shared top duties in Minnesota but took off in Buffalo.

Another year with young stud Josh Allen and Diggs should thrive again. Should be able to count on 100 plus catches, over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.

3. Tyreek Hill– Kansas City Chiefs – Hill doesn’t have the gift of size that some of the others have on the list, but his blazing speed makes him the most dangerous receiver in the game.

Paired with Mahomes and his arm this combo is so dangerous they can score from anywhere on the field. He can take over a game with his play or by the defense game planning so heavily against him that other things open up.

2. DeVante Adams – Green Bay Packers – Another receiver playing with a great quarterback but Adams would help out any signal caller in the NFL.

Size, speed, strength and now plenty of experience. He is good all over the field but just about automatic in the red zone when the Packers need points.

1. De’Andre Hopkins – Arizona Cardinals – A precise route runner that just never drops passes.

He has worked well with every quarterback he has played with and it just goes to show how much talent he has. This list could have been juggled around a little because I don’t think there is a clear cut number one but Mr. Hopkins you landed there on my list.

Well done.
