Bagley will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season

As more players from the 2018 NBA Draft class ink extensions with their respective teams, Marc Stein of MarcStein.Substack.com reports that the Sacramento Kings are not expected to reach a deal with former number-two overall pick Marvin Bagley III prior to Monday night’s extension deadline.

Bagley, 22, is in the final season of his rookie scale contract and will enter restricted free agency at the end of the upcoming season.

Since Bagley arrived in Sacramento, his tenure has been overshadowed by a combination of dismay from the Kings fanbase regarding the choice to select the Duke product over MVP candidate Luka Dončić and a flurry of injuries that have held the 6’11 forward out 48-percent of his career game opportunities.

Over 118 career appearances (43 starts), Bagley holds career averages of 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.8 blocks per game on 50-percent shooting from the field, 31-percent from beyond the three-point line and 66-percent from the free-throw stripe.

Among those players from the 2018 draft class that have been extended:

  • Luka Dončić: 5 years, $207 million
  • Trae Young: 5 years, $207 million
  • Michael Porter Jr.: 5 years, $172 million
  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 5 years, $172 million
  • Jaren Jackson Jr.: 4 years, $105 million
  • Mikal Bridges: 4 years, $90 million
