The new season of Sacramento Kings basketball got off to a good start the on Wednesday night in Portland.

“Rip City” is a place that the Kings just don’t win.  The 124-121 win was only their 13th win EVER in the city of Portland.

Harrison Barnes set career highs with 8 made three pointers and a career high 36 points.  Those 36 points were the most ever by a Sacramento King in a season opener.  Richaun Holmes added a double-double and De’Aaron Fox contributed 27 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds.

Now the Kings will try to start a season with a 2-0 record for the second-consecutive year.

The Kings have their home opener Friday night against the Utah Jazz.  Here are some things to know as you get yourself ready for the Kings first home game:

  • The Kings Home Opening Night record is an impressive (24-12) and that is including the fact that they have lost their last 6 of their last 7 home openers. Their 6 game home opening losing streak ended last year with the win over the Suns.
  • Prior to that streak of 6 straight home opening losses, the Kings had gone 16-1 in their home opening games.
  • The best individual performance by a Sacramento King during a home opener belongs to Kevin Martin. November 2, 2009 the Kings beat the Memphis Grizzlies 127-116 in Overtime for a home opening win.  Kevin Martin went off in that game.  Here is Martin’s stat line:
  • He played 52 minutes and went 14-27 from the floor.  Martin went to the line 18 times and made 13.  He had 1 block, 4 steals, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and scored 48 points
