Overreactions, Exaggerations & Just The Plain Out Truth – Week 7

Week eight is upon us and just about everyone is looking forward to the Thursday night matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals, and for good reason.
It could potentially be a NFC Championship preview, as both teams are riding at least a six game winning streak. The Cardinals are a 6.5 favorite and will most likely be playing against a Packers squad without their do it all Wide Reciever Devante Adams.
There are many other games on the docket that will make or break a few teams but we can’t get to week eight without reviewing week sevens results.
Overreactions:
San Francisco 49ers next three games: With the loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, the 49ers put themselves into the emergency danger zone. They were one of the first teams in the league to have a bye week which means they will play it out from here on out without a break.
How many games they play in a row may not matter as heading into week eight and their matchup against the Chicago Bears this team may not make it past the next three weeks of the schedule to even worry about the rest of the season. The team currently sits at 2-4, with two upcoming games after the Bears tilt in division, versus the 6-1, Los Angeles Rams and 7-0, Arizona Cardinals.
If you’re doing the math that means either way you calculate it, the 49ers must win two out of the next three to even compete for a division crown that realistically is probably out o their reach. That leaves one of the three wild card spots to be had possibly.
We should know everything we need to know about the 49ers by November 14th, their journey starts with the Bears who sit a game above the 49ers in the wild card race on Sunday.
NFL- Parody or Mediocre: There are thirty two teams in the NFL total. At this very moment, there are only thirteen teams who have a winning record. Five of the thirteen teams with a winning record either are undefeated or have only one loss. On the other end of the spectrum, thirteen teams either have two wins or less, with five of those teams having one win or less.
We aren’t halfway through the season yet and theoretically you could make a case for over half of the teams in the league not making the playoffs. Call it what you want, parody or mediocre but there is some bad football being played by numerous teams.
There is not great defense in the NFL: Through seven weeks of the NFL, only the Buffalo Bills rank in the top three of any defensive team stats. They have played six games and are giving up less than 300 yards a game and under 17 points a game.
The problem is a lot of their impressive stats stem from two games, their 35-0 win against the Dolphins and a 40-0 victory versus the Texans which are self explanatory.
In the other four games the Bills have played they have given up 16, 21, 20 and 31 points, losing two of those matchups. Their leading tackler Tremaine Edmunds has 40 tackles which ranks 43rd in the league while their sack leader Greg Rousseau has 3 sacks which ranks 35th. They have a pair of defensive backs in the top 10 in interceptions Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. Their defense is good but not great, at least not yet.
Deshaun Watson: I’m not sure anyone should trade for Watson at this point due to his off the field situation but there are some teams who should be picking up the phone immediately.
Watson’s current and future state as a NFL QB is definitely in question with the legal issues he is facing and that enough probably has detoured many teams from pulling the trigger on the trade. Then there’s the question of compensation for the Texans and what they would want back in return. Either way, half of the NFL needs a Quarterback. This is the same situation we see every year, teams and organizations betting on players that we have seen aren’t on his level when it comes to performance. It’s beyond risky to acquire Watson but he sure should be on the move.
Exaggerations:
Green Bay Packers schedule and why it will not live up to the hype: Prior to the season if you took a look at the Packers schedule you would of marked week eight as the turning point of the year.
I don’t think anyone would of thought the Arizona Cardinals would be undefeated at this point but it would of been hard to see them with anymore than 2 losses as they were favorite in all but two games this season. This up coming’s week matchup will surely test the Packers no doubt, but the gauntlet of games fans were expecting to watch post week eight don’t really have the juice they did like in the beginning of the season.
Following the Cardinals, the Packers get Kansas City, the same Kansas City team who just got whooped in Tennessee by the Titans.
The Chiefs literally put up three points this past week, have a banged Patrick Mahomes and their defense is statistically one of the worst in the league, not to mention they have a losing record. In week nine, they take on a Seahawks team who will be without their star Quarterback Russell Wilson, followed by a road game against the Vikings which should be a solid matchup.
Mix in the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, another matchup with the Vikings at home as well as a home game against the suddenly struggling Cleveland Browns who are currently lead by Case Keenum at Quarterback and the pulse of excitement for the home stretch of games for the Packers is as great as you being thrilled for your next dentist appointment.
The December 19th road game in Baltimore is probably the best game left on the docket for the “Pack” and we just seen what happened to them this past week(The Ravens were manhandled at home by the Bengals by a score of 41-17). It’s average at best!
Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans: The Bengals not only looked the part of a division leading team but may have proved that they can compete amongst the best teams in the league. They blasted the Baltimore Ravens on the road and took the lead in the AFC North commandingly.
Furthermore, they may have just let everyone else know that it’s division to be had. At the same time the Tennessee Titans clobbered the Chiefs, held them to 334 total yards, 3 points scored and knocked out Patrick Mahomes. Furthermore, they may have just let everyone know that the AFC South will once again goes through Tennessee. Dominating performances by both.
The Truth:
Marshawn Lynch: No matter if you’re a fan or if you dislike him, there is no denying Marshawn Lynch is a character. If you had a chance to see his segment with the Manning brother’s broadcast on Monday Night Football you would have to agree.
Lynch has long been viewed as animated and someone who has displayed a ton of radiance throughout his playing career and beyond. He is a person the NFL along with other many companies have attached their brands and I don’t really see that changing anytime soon.
The Goat Tom Brady: Anything Tom Brady does at this juncture of his career is just icing on the cake.
It seems every week “TB12 a.k.a. The Goat” is breaking records, accomplishing outer worldly feats or just plain out balling. This week’s news, just another four passing touchdown game which marks the 37th time he has done so. That ties the record for most times ever with Drew Brees.
Brady also tossed his 600th career touchdown plus a few more(he threw two more td’s) on Sunday and lead the Buccaneers to a 6-1 record. Everything he does at this point is the Truth.
Teams Missing the playoffs: We move forward to week eight and a few teams I thought would fall actually stepped up and got a win this pas week and saved their season not only in my mind but mathematically as well. There are no new teams to add, everyone is safe this week.
