The legend of Logan Webb continues to grow.

Rocklin native and 2021 standout right-hander Logan Webb has been named Opening Day starter by San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler.

Webb will take the ball on Friday, April 8th when the Giants open up the regular season against Miami Marlins at Oracle Park.

“I’m super excited,” Webb said of the honor following his Spring Training start on Monday. “My family is super excited. It’s something I’m looking forward to. This franchise, there’s been a lot of pretty special guys that got to start on Opening Day. To be able to say I’m one of them is pretty cool.”

Webb burst onto the scene during his first full season of MLB action in 2021.

Over 26 starts, the 25-year-old went 11-3 while establishing a 3.03 ERA and striking out 158 batters over 148.1 innings pitched.

While the right-hander’s regular season was impressive, Webb delivered electrifying performances in a hard-fought five-game National League Division Series against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

In Game 1 of the series on October 8th, Webb shut down a stacked Dodgers lineup as he struck out 10 batters over 7.2 scoreless innings. Less than a week later on, Webb struck out seven and allowed just one run over seven innings during the decisive Game 5 on October 14.

The Rocklin High School alumnus finished the postseason with a 0.61 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 14.1 innings pitched.

Webb will look to be a leader at the top of San Francisco’s rotation this season, with recently-signed 2021 All-Star Carlos Rodón, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood, and veteran Alex Cobb rounding out the Giants’ one-through-five options.
