San Francisco Giants right-hander Alex Cobb has been placed on the 10-day Injured List after suffering a right adductor strain during Tuesday’s loss to the New York Mets.

Cobb left the first game of the doubleheader during the fifth inning after appearing to be in clear discomfort while running to cover first base.

Following the first game, San Francisco recalled right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte from AAA Sacramento to take Cobb’s spot on the active roster.

Over just two starts this season, Cobb is 1-0 with a 4.82 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 9.1 innings pitched. The 34-year-old had an impressive season debut on April 12th that saw him sit down 10 San Diego Padres batters over just five innings.

“It stinks,” Cobb said of the injury. “I’ve dealt with stuff all the time during my career… Finally felt like you’re in a good place physically, the ball’s coming out well, do everything you can to stay strong through a whole season… Disappointing.”

Before exiting with the injury on Tuesday, Cobb had surrendered four runs (three earned) and struck out four before throwing his final pitch with one out in the fifth inning.

It was a rough Tuesday for the Giants as the Mets swept the doubleheader, claiming Game 1 in walk-off fashion before handing San Francisco ace Logan Webb his first loss in 24 starts.

With Cobb sidelined for the time being, expect Fair Oaks and Sacramento State product Sam Long to be in the mix for some spot starts, while right-handers Tyler Beede and Jakob Junis could also be considered for the starting role.
