Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair....

In any profession, job security is important.

For professional sports, one could argue that job security is the most important aspect of comfortability. This holds relevance for athletes, coaches, and even front-office executives.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair is entering the final year of his contract with the franchise and there have been “no talks” of a contract extension with owner Vivek Ranadivé.

McNair recently hired current Golden State Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown to a four-year deal to become Sacramento’s new head coach.

According to Amick’s report, McNair’s job status was a topic of discussion when the front office was meeting with coaching candidates over the past couple of weeks:

Sources say McNair’s status was a focal point for many of the coaching candidates during the process, with some having concerns about the lack of contractual commitment to the front office and what it might mean for their (would-be) partnership.

Ranadivé would be wise to lock McNair in on a similar contract timeline that will align with Brown as the Kings search for stability in both the front office and on the sidelines.

Having both Brown and McNair under contract through the 2025-26 season also aligns with star guard De’Aaron Fox’s contract which also will expire in the summer of 2026.

A lot rides on the 2022-23 season for the Sacramento Kings, but you can begin to argue that a lot more rides on the shoulders of Monte McNair as his future hangs in the balance.
