In his time with the Sacramento Kings, DeMarcus Cousins was just as much of an all-star in the community as he was on the court. Now, despite being traded by the Kings to New Orleans, Cousins has gone above and beyond again, reaching out to the family of Stephon Clark, offering to pay for his funeral.
Clark, 22, was shot and killed in his grandmother’s backyard on Sunday by two police officers who mistook the cell phone he was holding for a gun. On Thursday, before the Sacramento Kings vs Atlanta Hawks game, protesters rallied around the Golden 1 Center, blocking the doors and not allowing fans into the game.
The game was delayed and eventually started in front of a minuscule crowd of 2,000 fans. Following the game, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive addressed the crowd in attendance, and all those at home watching around the world, flanked by his staff, Kings coaches, and the players.

In 2015, DeMarcus Cousins paid for the funeral of Grant High School football player J.J. Clavo, who was shot and killed before a playoff game.
