Every site you see seems to have NBA power rankings.  So here goes my turn at trying to sort out the 30 NBA teams in order.  Here is my formula to how I separate the teams. I start with one simple equation.  Take home losses and subtract that from home wins to get a number.  For example, the Sacramento Kings have 3 home losses and 4 road wins.  That gives them a number of +1.  What this does is even out the playing field as some teams have had a lopsided schedule between home and road games.  So with that said I give every team a number and then break the tie from teams based on my opinion of them.  Back to the Kings, they are tied with 10 teams that are at +1.  I will separate them as you will see below.  So here goes….

  1. Toronto Raptors +4
  2. Milwaukee Bucks +4
  3. Golden State Warriors +3
  4. Boston Celtics +3  (this seems to be much higher than their 7-6 record.  The Celtics have 4 road wins and only 1 home loss.  Boston has played just 4 home games so far.
  5. Indiana Pacers +2
  6. Philadelphia 76ers +2
  7. Utah Jazz +1
  8. Houston Rockets +1 (I put the Jazz and Rockets on the higher end of the +1 teams because of their 5 road wins)
  9. Portland Trail Blazers +1
  10. Sacramento Kings +1 (Top 10 just sounds good and looks good too)
  11. Oklahoma City Thunder +1
  12. Los Angeles Clippers +1
  13. Memphis Grizzlies +1
  14. New Orleans Pelicans +1
  15. Charlotte Hornets +1
  16. Brooklyn Nets +1
  17. Denver Nuggets +0 (much like Boston this one is a bit of a surprise.  3 road wins to go with 3 home losses puts them at even)
  18. San Antonio Spurs +0
  19. Los Angeles Lakers +0
  20. Detroit Pistons +0
  21. Dallas Mavericks -1
  22. Minnesota Timberwolves -1
  23. Washington Wizards -1  (this appears to be high based on their early season struggles)
  24. Miami Heat -2
  25. Orlando Magic -2
  26. New York Knicks -3
  27. Atlanta Hawks -3
  28. Chicago Bulls -4
  29. Phoenix Suns -5
  30. Cleveland Cavaliers -5
