Josh Donaldson has reportedly agreed to a $23M contract with the Blue Jays for next season in efforts to avoid arbitration, according to Sports Illustrated.
The amount of money being agreed upon is a record. Donaldson and the Jays have exceeded Bryce Harper and the Washington Nationals agreement on a 2018 salary of over $21M Both players will be free agents after this season.
Donaldson’s production has gone down quite a bit in 2017, from three consecutive years as an All-Star and two years with the top-five finishes. This is due to him being out for six weeks because of a calf injury he received early in the season.
