The San Francisco Giants are reportedly looking to bolster their third-baseman position by showing interest in acquiring Tampa Bay Rays’ Evan Longoria via trade.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported Monday morning.

The Giants depth chart hasn’t been looking too promising, with Pablo Sandoval, Ryder Jones and Kelby Tomlinson listed respectively.

Sandoval hit just .225 since being traded from the Boston Red Sox in July. Jones his .193 and Tomlinson hit .258. All three have combined for just eight home runs.

Longoria hit 20 home runs last season, with 36 doubles and 86 RBIs in 156 games played.

However, defensively is where he shined, winning Gold Glove Award in 2017.

Nightengale does add in his report that if the Giants were to trade for him, they’d have to give them a high-salaried player such as outfielders Hunter Pence or Denard Span.
