In the race for Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, the Oakland Athletics are reportedly out of the mix.

MLB on FOX reporter Ken Rosenthal tweeted the news Sunday afternoon.

Ohtani, 23, is an interesting player because he can play an outfield position, pitch and/or step onto the plate as a designated hitter.

Since beginning his run with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in 2013, Ohtani has held a .286 AVG with 166 RBIs and 48 home runs. On the mound, he owns a 42-15 record with a 2.52 ERA.

The Japanese two-way superstar Ohtani’s criteria for a Major League team had nothing to do with money and nothing to do with the DH. Instead, the very first cut apparently came down to pure geography.

Rosenthal confirmed Monday morning the list of teams Ohtani is interested in playing for are: the Angels, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Mariners, Padres, and Rangers.

Sports 1140 KHTK will keep you posted on the sweepstakes.
