The San Francisco Giants remain in contact with the Pittsburgh Pirates to discuss contracting Andrew McCutchen if they are unable to obtain Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins, NBC Sports reported.

In the 2017 season, McCutchen was off to a slow start, and has fluctuated throughout the summer and early fall but he picked himself back up and was strong in September.

He hit .279/.363/.486 with 28 homers. The Pirates have exercised their $14.5 million option on McCutchen with the Giants and earlier this month.

McCutchen’s tenth year as a pirate will be 2018, as well as his last year before he becomes a free agent.

The Giants are currently in need for a new outfielder and some more offense, so it isn’t too crazy to believe the Giants may acquire McCutchen if they are unable to contract Stanton.
